Nim (Michael)
I, Nimphylel Lelien, have been increasing;y frustrated with the attempts of my party to communicate with beings of less mortal natures. Over the past half year, we have engaged with an astounding variety of “higher beings”, and have been met with a new puzzle each time. Infuriating. Deals have been made with demons, rule agreements brokered with fae, and information sought from natural spirits. That is leaving out the absolute bullshit of trying to talk to dragons, or the pebbles of the Brilliant Faces.
Anyways, these are my thoughts and recollections on the matter.
The ever present advice seems to be to ascertain what mode of speech/perception the being we wish to speak to is fluent in, and approach from that direction. (I suppose we are supposed to ignore the fact that most of them speak perfectly fluent common, and most of us do not speak fluent "impress me”, which seemed to be what our local river preferred.
Our most success with demons arose when brokering a deal, surprising no one. Trying to convince it with logic was fruitless, but as soon as we provided what we would do in exchange for what it would do, it agreed and carried out its word (This resulted in its death by black blade. Deserved).
It is worth noting that our other major encounter with demons, they seemed relaxed and uncaring, as if our antics were a play for them to enjoy. I don't recall if there was successful communication that night.
As mentioned above, the River Spirit we spoke to seemed less interested in our words as it did our disposition. It responded to high energy, excitement, and displays of passion. Not only that, it would accept it from an individual, but only the group in unison. This may have been our greatest challenge thus far. My guess is that spirits of a similar nature might respond well to different emotional displays, but I have yet to test the theory.
The dragons are pissing me off. They fly above, say nothing, and circle. One responded to singing. Do with that what you will.
Fae seem to be partial to rules in a manner similar to demons, but I have not had the personal experience or success to add more.
Lastly come the scions of the brilliant faces. They seemed perhaps the most similar to interacting with us mortals on our level. They stood before us readily, shared gifts, and communicated through hand gestures and universal symbols. I might think to edit this upon further interaction, which I expect to experience within the year.
I hope to every god I pray to that this paper is more extensive by the time the year is through. I would rather not live on whims.
