The Illmythil Inquirer Written and Edited by Elethir Eroval ISSUE TWO Ninthmoon 268.3.3 KING STILL MISSING With a full month having passed since the disappearance of Illionor's king while he was in a locked room of a tower in the Illmythil Outpost, the mystery has only deepened. The investigators have narrowed down his sudden and unexpected disappearance down to a five-minute period, which itself occurred five minutes before a strange and unexplained earthquake which caused a rockslide in the mountains. "The fay says there are no faults in that area," said the adventurer Ari, "And that the demon in that area usually stops earthquakes." (For more on the demon, see our previous issue.) The timing seems suspicious, but is the earthquake connected to the mystery of the king? Maírion Lamandhel, archmage apprentice, says that the quicker, easier checks have found little, and that now, the "long, cumbersome" checks will begin. "We still can't rule out foul play." The diplomat Valorian, ambassador to Eldar, has come to Illmythil on their way to Celemrion to meet with other diplomats and respond to this crisis. An old adventuring friend of the king's, they say "I don't think he would have chosen to leave, if he had a say in it." They wonder if problems from the king's former post as the ambassador to Coradel could have followed him home. According to the corps of diplomats, the king handled that chaotic ambassadorial position remarkably well, which was a significant factor in his election to kingship. Could enemies from Coradel have followed him all the way here? Or is the danger home-grown? Hopefully answers will arise soon. LOCKDOWN CAUSES RESEARCH PROBLEMS The restrictions on the Illmythil Outpost have caused many research experiments to fail, sometimes explosively. One researcher, ignoring the many notices stating that mana flows might be restricted, inadvertently released several imps into the labs. Samaníl Elentaril, crown inquisitor apprentice, questions whether researchers truly understand the consequences of their actions. DANGERS IN TUNNELS The brave adventuring party of the Illmythil Outpost discovered many dangers lurking in the tunnels beneath the mountains, searching in them to try and find clues about the earthquakes, as well as cleaning up research projects left behind when the Outpost went into lockdown. In addition to expected tunnel dangers such as Rust-bugs, Sonic Moths, Cave Cockroaches, and the ever-present threat of a tunnel collapse (made worse by the recent earthquakes) was a Wyrm that was, in the words of the adventurer Nim, "Sleepy but angry." Together with the rest of the party, they were able to defeat it. "It was big, yet slow. We were faster." They additionally found a strange, discordant, and broken Primal ritual. Whether it had been disturbed by the earthquakes or related to the cause of the earthquakes has yet to be determined; also unknown is whether or not it is able to be repaired or even safely dismantled. The adventurer Edric insists that something must be done. Last, but most certainly not least, the party once again encountered the Demon they had met once before in the mountains. This time, though still angry, it seemed willing to speak, and once again demanded that the Illmythil Outpost discover the cause of the earthquakes and stop them, giving us three moons to see this deed done.
